Erin McCluskey Wheeler is a painter, collagist, writer, curator, and teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her process starts with color and is additive and iterative - letting the pieces themselves determine the construction methods that she will use. Often the papers she uses are sourced from other artists' discards, failures, experiments, or studio scraps. Erin has a BA in studio art and art history from Beloit College, and an MFA from California College of the Arts in writing. Erin is a faculty member of the 92nd Y School of the Arts in New York City and a studio facilitator at NIAD Art Center, an art studio and gallery for artists with developmental disabilities. Erin’s painted paper collages are licensed and sold through West Elm, Minted, Target, and Samsung. Her recent work has moved into large scale commissions for health care, hotels, and private homes. She has won multiple awards for her visual art and poetry including the top prize for poetry from Northwind Arts and she was selected to be the 2022 World Collage Day Poster and Cover Artist for Kolaj Magazine.
